Resolution 1: Frequency of the ESTA Conference

Council has noted a reduction in registrations for ESTA Conferences in recent years and has been considering how the format and scheduling of future conferences might better meet the needs of members.

Council therefore wishes to seek the view of the membership on whether the Conference should continue to take place annually or move to a biennial cycle.

Resolution

That the ESTA Conference should move from an annual to a biennial cycle, with a Conference being held once every two years.

Members entitled to vote will be asked to vote:

FOR – move to a biennial Conference held once every two years.

AGAINST – retain the current annual Conference.

Resolution 2: Future Conference Location Strategy

This resolution will be considered only if Resolution 1 is not carried and the ESTA

Conference continues to be held annually.

Council has considered whether establishing a more predictable pattern of Conference locations could improve accessibility, planning and attendance.

Resolution

That ESTA should replace the current geographical rotation of Conference locations with an alternating model, under which the Conference is held at a consistent centrally located base in alternate years and at a different location elsewhere in the UK in the intervening years.

For example, this could result in a pattern such as:

2026 – central base

2027 – regional location

2028 – central base

2029 – regional location

The particular venues will remain a matter for Council to determine, taking account of availability, suitability, cost and the needs of the Association.

Members entitled to vote will be asked to vote:

FOR – adopt the alternating central-base/regional-location model.

AGAINST – retain the existing approach of rotating Conference locations broadly between central, northern and southern areas of the UK
