ABOUT THE COURSE

The ESTA-EGU Geoscience Summer School is a five-day intensive training programme for current and future geology teachers. Taught by leading experts, the course carries a Professional Development Certificate awarded by the European Geosciences Union (EGU) and is endorsed by the Geological Society of London.

Who is the Summer School for?

The Summer School is primarily intended for practising or newly qualified teachers, or those about to begin a PGCE/QTS course, who wish to teach geology in the UK at examination level.

Applicants would normally have at least 50% geoscience content within their degree.

We welcome applications from those intending to teach GCSE or A-level Geology, or contribute to relevant courses elsewhere in the UK. Exceptions may be considered on individual merit.

The course is designed principally to develop the pedagogy of teaching geology, rather than to teach geology as a subject from first principles.

What’s Included?

  • five days of tuition from leading experts

  • all written materials

  • accommodation

  • lunch and refreshments throughout

  • a Certificate of Completion
