Membership Secretary’s Annual Report

I took over the position of ESTA membership secretary in September of last year. This was after my experience of attending the EGU Gift program and wishing to be more involved within the Geology Community. Teaching Geology in Cumbria can be an isolated experience, and so, through joining and supporting ESTA, I wanted to be able to firstly support other Geology teachers who may also feel isolated, but to also encourage ESTA through its membership.

This year has been a steep learning curve and the role has presented many challenges. Mostly surrounding contacting members and renewing memberships, however, with perseverance, this is moving forward. Membership has dropped this year, but with new changes ready to be implemented, I am positive that membership will increase going forward. Renewing membership will be a more simple process through the online system. With the new website, the process has been streamlined, allowing for members to easily access membership content. Members will be able to renew their membership via an online system, with any enquiries also able to be answered through the website

Sydney particularly, has been a huge support to myself through the first year, as well as Angela. Thank you both for this.
